I've downloaded and burned a DSL iso to a cd and tried to boot up the laptop with the live cd.

DSL boot screen appears and i press enter to continue.

While it goes through checking stuff it freezes when it comes to this point

    INIT: version 2.78-knoppix booting
    Running Linux Kernel 2.4.31
Processor 0 is Pentium III (Coppermine) 648MHz, 256 KB Cache
ACPI Bios found, activating modules: ac battery button fan procesor thermal
    [square cursor]
^ square cursor thing stops blinking

    Anyone know why this happens?

Hiya jsauni, welcome to the forums
When you get to the boot screen "boot:" type in
    Code:
    noacpi acpi=off
And then press enter, I think this will allow you to boot correctly.

    Hi Mike,

I tried the command you recommended and the following came up:

Could not find kernel image: noacpi
    Thanks for the welcome.

I found the same problem, I ended up using nopcmcia and vga=7xx ... I think it worked with vga=788 or something similar.

    Try is with this option
    Code:
    dsl noacpi
It should work, if not then there are more commands to try.

    Hey jsauni,

I know this is really old, but I had the same problem as you, and while the answer is the type this during the boot:
    noacpi acpi=off
When using Damn Small Linux, you have to preface it with dsl.

So, when you see the boot: line, type dsl noacpi acpi=off, and you should be fine.

    Good luck.
