So goes a the compiler report / log on a queue of programs that I am trying to install.
Also, there was the kde_inc... kde_lib....=NONE which I researched and found could be resolved by adding KDEVELOP to the retinue.
This too, now awaits in the first queue for x_inc... x_lib... before it will compile.
I thought that I had the answer in X-Toolkit, but find that the trail isn't anymore, with dead web links all round.
The system is Mepis 6.5, with KDE 3.5.3, and X Org 7.1.1 as supplied.
Any help would be much appreciated.

I am answering my own question.
Seems that this problem is not apparent in Debian, the Mepis grandparent.
Think I shall migrate - at least, put another distro on my HD.
