    Dell Inspiron 1520

Hi guys, I have just bought a new dell inspiron 1520, and have been trying to install various linux Os'es (64studio, dyne bolic etc). 64studio comes up visually, ie, the video driver works, but no sound. Dyne bolic doesn't come up until I remove 'nv' and replace with 'vesa' even though it knows I have an nVidia. Sound works for hydrogen (which doesn't require JACK) but JACK won't start, something about 'Could not connect to JACK server as client'.

    Any thoughts.?

Wow. Can't believe I missed this thread when it came up. Umm... better late than never I guess. I have an Inspiron 1520. I wrote an article about my experiences getting Linux set up on it:

Linux on the Dell Inspiron 1520

I had to jump through some hoops for the sound card, but the Nvidia card worked great after I installed the proper drivers for it. Here's a tutorial for that:

Sorry I missed your thread when you posted it! Hope you're still around.
