Damn Small Linux Desktop Hang
Hi everyone,
I have DSL 4.2.5 (Linux kernel 2.4.31) installed to the hdd on a 10 year old
Compaq Presario 1620 (167 MHz and 80 MB RAM). It connects to the web via
a Motorola SB5100 Surfboard cable modem, Netgear WGR614 wireless router
and a D-Link DWL-G650 wireless cardbus adapter (PCMCIA). When I finished
using it last evening, I went into DSL control panel and selected PCMCIA then
'suspend'.Today I reopened DSL control panel followed by PCMCIA then
'resume' to get back on the web, but the pointer froze at that point.
I don't like to have to do a hard shutdown, so is there a key combination to
exit non-responding application(s)? How can I shut down safely?

You can try ctrl+alt+f1 and see if you are able to do a console login and issue shutdown -h now. You could also try ctrl+alt+del which may cause a controlled shutdown as well.

Hi Jonathan183,
I just tried your suggestions, and neither ctrl+alt+f1 or
ctrl+alt+del had any effect- it's still unresponsive...
I also tried the 'escape' key and also ctrl+alt+escape.

Hi jayd512,
Thanks for the Link you provided. I wish I could say that the
problem got solved, but it didn't. It looks like a hard shutdown
is becoming inevitable...
