Hi Shona
It's not clear what you are trying to do. Are you trying to restore your EeePC back to it's factory settings? If so the EeePC would have come with a CD. If you can get hold of an external CD/DVD drive you can use that to re-install.
On my EeePC 901 there is also an option in grub to format to original settings. If that is available on your EeePC you could try that.
Good luck!Linux User #453176

If you are concerned with getting a thorough cleaning download and burn the iso for d-ban (dariks boot and nuke) this drive wiper will overwrite the drive 37 times
then use the disk that came with the system to repartition and rebuild it.

Just power on. And follow the WIKI How to restore factory default settings on Xandros (default) linux [EeeUser Eee PC Wiki][]=f9&s[]=restore&s[]=instructions
Restoring Factory Settings
WARNING, ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED.
Power down the EEE PC (unplug it and pull the battery if you have to). Now hit the power button and immediately start madly tapping the F9 key (like your trying to kill aliens). This will bring up the grub menu. Use the arrow keys to highlight “Restore Factory Settings” then hit enter. The EEE PC will ask you to confirm, key in yes, NOT y, to continue. Now reboot. Your EEE PC should be restored to factory
You can also restore your computer with the included recovery disk, instructions are in the owners manual.
