    cannot install intel wireless 3945ABG

    Hi all,

    machine nc compaq nc4400
    os centos 5.3
    wireless info intel 3945 ABG

    when I try to activate intel 3945 ABG,

    I get the following error

    iwl3945: iwlwifi-3945-1.ucode firmware file req failed: Reason -2

    I google around this error which leads me to
    intellinuxwireless dot org/tar.php?p=iwlwifi&a=iwlwifi-1.2.25.tgz&f=INSTALL

    "First, you build and install the mac80211 subsystem. See:
    intellinuxwireless dot org/?p=mac80211"

    which leads me to another page within intellinuxwirless dot org
    intellinuxwireless dot org/?p=mac80211&n=HOWTO-mac80211

    "If it finds Makefile, then things should work. If it doesn't, you will need to install the sources for your kernel image. The steps to doing that are distribution specific and are not documented here. "

    could anyone tell me how to install the sources for my kernal image?

    how to resolve the above issue?

    At the very least you need to install kernel-devel and kernel-headers packages: yum install kernel-devel kernel-headers
    If you are running a xen-enabled kernel, then you will need to install kernel-xen-devel as well.
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

    The firmware req message is probably saying you need to install the ipw2200-firmware rpm.
