Which commands have been tried? Is it a new install?

I am using debian
I am using debian
my problem is that i was trying to install cshell but I did not complete and I changed the shell for the root
now when I am trying to login as root it gives me the following message
Cannot execute --csh: No such file or directory
my /etc/passwd
root
:0:0:root:/root:--csh
I think it can be fix by changing the top line to /bin/bash but I cant because need root pass to do that the sudo is not enable
what can I try?
it is not a new install I been using this for a while and have a lot of important stuff
thanks
