We have IBM server x3650 M3 server with 9TB HDD and 48GB Ram

when installing Base OS the time taken to install is around 20 minutes because of the HDD size .But when installing virtual machine it is taking around 4-5 hrs.where a normal installation would take around 20 minutes .
Can some body help us in tracing the problem and reason for this
