how to install programs in puppy linux
Have read many tutorials on installing software in linux but usually 2 to 5 steps work and then have failure. Can anyone help with this. Following is an example just tried. Again i am using Puppy linux 5.
mkdir /usr/local/src/
cd /usr/local/src/
ls
cd <directory>
more INSTALL
FAST INSTALLATION
as root:
./fastinstall.sh
#./fastinstall.sh
REMEMBER: you need kde and open gl libs and headers mesa3d.org
to compile this
Running cmake . . .
./fastinstall.sh line 6: kde-config: command not found
CMake Error: Could not find CMAKE_ROOT ! ! !
CMake has most likely not been installed correctly.
Modules directory not found in
/usr/bin
CMake Error : Error executing cmake : :LoadCache(). Aborting
Running make
make: *** No targets specified and no makefile found. Stop
Warning: Installation might be broken

To elaborate a little further. Puppy uses devx to compile in Puppy Linux. Think of it as gmake, or make in other distros. It is the same as the build-essential tool in Debian. devx comes as a devx.sfs file. .sfs files are added via Puppy Boot Manager in Menu on frugal installs. If you have a full install instead. Use the Puppy Google search engine and search for : installing .sfs in full install.Linux Registered User # 475019
