Broadcom and Meego- Or Am I Beating a Dead Horse?
Hey all, I have a Dell Mini 9 here I'm trying to resurrect for use after my Lenovo ThinkPad Tablet's power port loosened from the motherboard. I'm a college student and I really just need a mobile computing solution that is lightweight and easy on screen space and battery.
So I ask you: should I get help getting the wireless card to work
Where I got an error trying to load my compiled broadcom drivers from a guy called Slain that unknown symbol was in the module, that was me trying to find it.Code:[root@nicholas-desktop Downloads]# modprobe wl FATAL: Error inserting wl (/lib/modules/2.6.37.6-12.1/kernel/drivers/net/wireless/wl.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg) [root@nicholas-desktop Downloads]# dmseg | grep wl bash: dmseg: command not found [root@nicholas-desktop Downloads]# dmesg | grep wl [ 6.483991] wl: module license 'unspecified' taints kernel. [ 6.521578] wl: Unknown symbol lock_is_held (err 0) [ 6.522216] wl: Unknown symbol lockdep_rcu_dereference (err 0) [ 6.524292] wl: Unknown symbol lockdep_init_map (err 0) [ 6.532116] wl: Unknown symbol debug_lockdep_rcu_enabled (err 0) [ 6.533461] wl: Unknown symbol debug_locks (err 0) [ 6.534214] wl: Unknown symbol rcu_sched_lock_map (err 0) [ 206.030145] wl: Unknown symbol lock_is_held (err 0) [ 206.030529] wl: Unknown symbol lockdep_rcu_dereference (err 0) [ 206.032250] wl: Unknown symbol lockdep_init_map (err 0) [ 206.037522] wl: Unknown symbol debug_lockdep_rcu_enabled (err 0) [ 206.038604] wl: Unknown symbol debug_locks (err 0) [ 206.039129] wl: Unknown symbol rcu_sched_lock_map (err 0)
The alternative is just finding another distro, any suggestions for this old POS? I want to be able to word-process and access the internet, and I don't like the debian/ubuntu family. I tried OpenSuse earlier today but the MD5checksum failed because my desktop computer's liveusb creator for winblows ****ed it up. My other distro on that computer is Fedora and I haven't gotten Fedora's liveusb creator to ever play nice with anything other than itself and MeeGo.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, I've got to get to class.

Distrowatch.com lists meego as discontinued, so you should pick another distro. Try LegacyOS, lubuntu, antix, or crunchbang, or do a search on distrowatch.com for older computers or netbooks, and pick the one you like best. The Atom N270 processor isn't real fast, but with 1 GB of ram, you can run most distro's that aren't too bloated, but the ones with low requirements will run faster.

I agree with Mason. An active distro will be far easier to deal with in the long run.
Aside from that, no matter the distro, Broadcom cards typically need firmware to be installed after the fact.
So try a few distros. Once you find one that suits your tastes, post back with us and we should be able to help get you sorted out.Jay

Try Fuduntu
I know fewt as a friendly on hands on line developer and he designs Fuduntu with Netbooks in mind.
Kinda hard to recommend a distro though since we don't know the specs on your mini 9. Some are stock. Some are not.
