hmmm. have you tried changing tty's after starting gdm3?
    with Ctrl+Alt+F(n) where (n) can bebetween 1 and 7.

Try installing Xorg "sudo apt-get install xorg" and see if that'll help. I know in Manjaro there was an issue with glamor-egl and in order to get updates you'd have to uninstall it then you could do your updates. At the end of the updates if I didn't re-install xorg I'd get a bash prompt (the $ sign) and I'd have to do a "sudo pacman -S xorg" then reboot to get things running. With Kali being Debian based you'd use apt-get instead so give that a try and do a reboot and see what happens.
No matter where ya' go, there ya' are.

    Hello,
    thanks for your answer.

Tried "apt-get install xorg" but then i get error about " unmet dependencies" If understand right, then there are newer Version , but he will not install it.

Then thought maybe Need to uninstall first, but "apt-get remove xorg" say "package not installed, nothing to remove" ....ufff

I thought Kali like it predecessor Backtrack always booted to a command prompt and you had to run startx. Sounds like its running right to me.
