Kanotix install
I want to instll kanotix along side windows xp on my laptop. To do this do i have to partition my harddrive on windows or will the kanotix installer do this for me? If i have to partition my harddrive what program should i use that is free. Also could you tell me anything else that might be useful to me when installing kanotix.

Kanotix has a partitioning tool integrated, I think it is QTparted. With this tool, you can shrink the windows partition and set up some partitions (e.g. in ext3 or ReiserFS format) for Kanotix. I recommend the following layout:
| windows partitions || swap (=2xRAM size) || / (~5GB) || /home (for your data) |Windows free since 2002 | computing since 1984

I agree with Kojak, I'd just like to mention that you should defragment your windows drive before playing around with partitioning. Oh, and backup your data
