    Ess 2898 problem on mepis 3.4.3 kernel 2.6.15-583tsc

    hi everybody

    I have a Ess 2898 modem which is a winmodem i downloaded the driver and compiled it and every thing went ok installed and so on

    i queried it with kppp it says unable to create modem lock file i looked into kppp handbook and found it is not really important to create one so decided not to create one.
    then i entered my ISP information and clicked connect then it just stop responding in intiazlizing the modem.

    sorry but it is my first time to use linux

    Partly fixed

    hello everybody

    i have fixed the problem with the modem i can dial and send faxes but my problem now is I get an error MSG says pppd died unexectedly exit code 16
    when i checked the log file the ISP had sent bad MSG and i don't know the meaning of it or anything
