    I think that you may be confused about the CD Drive.
    Forget about doing things from windows.
    Try the following:
    1/ Put your Windows XP disc in the CD Drive.
    2/ shut down the PC completely.
    3/ Reboot PC making sure the BIOS is set up to boot from CD first. Your XP install disc should start up.
    4/ You should be able to fix the problem at this point.
