DSL just goes blank after boot from cd

So, like it says,
dsl wont boot off disk
it boots up and when it seems like it should be letting me in.. it just goes black..

on a possibly related side note
partedmagic wont find my display, it gets loaded and dies
says no display..

If it boots fine and enters run level 5 with a blank screen try some of the boot options...when you boot the cd at the boot prompt hit f2 or f3 for boot options...type them at the prompt...ie dsl vga=normal
