    modem hangs up soon after connect



    Installed Mepis 6.0 OK. Yet no pppd response after modem connection to ISP (Verizon). Modem hangs up within 1-2 seconds (status 16). Tried slowing port speed from 115,200 to 57600; NG. Same machine (Shuttle, AMD Athlon3200, 512Mb ram) ran Mepis 2003.10 very well. Any advice?

    Ah the new version of KPPP. The first thing to do is clear out all of the pre-set " My Modem" stuff, close out KPPP, re-open KPPP and put in your settings. For some reason KPPP goes hair brained if you leave/use the pre-settings.
