Do you have write permissions for copy ?
What is written in the line ?
Did you try the package for rt2500 provided by Synaptic ?If you need a CD/DVD catalogizer, give a try to my program:

Synaptic
Synaptic is a package managing application. It's a frontend to apt. It's installed by default situated in the bottom left corner of your desktop as a submenu item of System button (usually 2. button after KMenu button). Open it up, press Synaptic then the password (if required). You'll find a list of packages. Search for rt2500 and mark for installation. Maybe you shall have to refresh the package list.
Obviously you'll temporaly need to have at least dial-up connection to retain the package. If you cant't do it with Mepis, switch to Windows and search for the package, or give me your e-mail, and I'll send it to you.
