It's has been really hard to try and help you, any chance to change your distro. Maybe I can give you more specific commands like that.

    Sorry for the BIG delay

    Hi freespireuser !

    Lets start from scratch.
    Open Terminal and execute this
    Code:
    sudo fdisk -l
    Post output here.

    * You are having a lot of trouble in FreeSpire. Is it possible for you to install any other Distro? Ubuntu is most newbie friendly and free to download ( 99% Linux distros are free to download ). You can request for free Ubuntu Installation CD from here.

when freespire is first starting up it says something about being powered by Ubuntu, whats that about? i requested the free cd but am curious as to why a website gives away free Cd's.

I am not sure about this but both Ubuntu and Freespire based on Debian only.

Because Ubuntu people want to spread Linux as much as possible. You will receive CDs in 3-4 weeks, depends on location. It takes 4 weeks for here in India.

Now, save jre-6u2-linux-i586.bin file on Desktop, Open Terminal and execute this
    [/code]
    ls ~/Desktop[/code]
Does it display jre-6u2-linux-i586.bin filename in output?

    jkutinsky@computer:~$ ls ~/Desktop[/code]
ls: /home/jkutinsky/Desktop[/code]: No such file or directory

does this make sense to you? i want to make sure im getting the right stuff
