I would recommend starting a new thread. Your original problem is solved and this thread is now over 9 pages.
For your problem, take a look at this link. In fact, I would read through that whole tutorial. It will give you a much better understanding of how Ubuntu works and how to install software in Linux. The really good thing about Ubuntu is there is a huge user community so almost anything you need to know how to do can be found somewhere. Also, check out this one (specifically the apt-get section).
