How can I recover my files in my hard disk?

All my important files is already gone because I accidentally reformatted my 160GB hard disk. What software should I use to recover my files?

In the best case you use your last backup.

If there is none, then you can try your luck with
TestDisk - CGSecurity / PhotoRec - CGSecurity
and see what can be recovered.

Try Testdisk for Partitions and Photorec for files. Both of these handy tools come installed on the Parted Magic distro.

So,
Check the Parted-Magic Live-CD.
During boot-up, there is a DOS type menu intro,
which has an "Extras" menu tacked to the bottom.
The web site has good tutorials, and a forum.
The author is Verner, and he is good.

I dongle a USB flash drive
just for immediate / manual backups of the current subdir.

GrSync offers me a semi-auto backup to a large USB external HD.
