[SOLVED] Trying to browse windows shares (PCLinuxOS 2010)
Hi all,
I'm using PCLinuxOS 2010. One thing I noticed, if I boot the LiveCD,
I can browse the shares on my win2k box without problems.
However, when I boot my installed system, it times out and nothing is displayed.
Going through Dolphin/network/samba/workgroup I get a message at the bottom
"timeout on server workgroup"
Going through smb4k, it just refuses to display the shares (although it displays the
win2k box name)
Not sure where to go from here. Any tips for troubleshooting?
TIA,
Dave

I got it to work by adding the Netbios name of the Win2k PC to the hosts of
PCLOS. Why that was necessary, I don't know.
Surely, it already new the UP address?
Secondly, another weird thing - browsing the shares, files & folders,
after a minute or two it asks for user ID and Pswd?
What is that all about ? It already let me access the files !
