PCLinuxOS Install Issues
Well, this is highly frustrating. I downloaded and installed the PCLinuxOS 2007 files off the official site, and am happily using Linux. I choose the install wizard from the guest desktop so I can finally get away from windows, and follow the instructions to partition my hard drive. It warns me that all data will be wipe, and i say next, quite happily
From there, after reading the help file on the desktop, it should go to a screen that says "press Next to install or Cancel to quit". However, it says "reboot and select "use existing partitions"". So, I reboot the computer, choose the linux command, and I get an error
"find --set-root --ignore-floppies /menu.lst
Error 17: File not found
Press any key to continue... _"
so i press any key.
I get another screen:
GRUB4DOS 0.4.3 2007-10-15, Memory 639K / 190M, Code end: 0x41538
[then this bit is in a box]
Use the [up arrow] and [down arrow] keys to highlight an entry. Press ENTER or 'b' to boot.
Press 'e' to edit the commends before booting, or 'c' for a command-line.
What the hell do I do? I've tried all of the things, but each one has resulted in me rebooting.
EDIT: And now the WinXP isn't booting either - it asks me to load in safe mode, then restarts. Honestly, if anyone knows anything that could help, please, please reply.
Hi and Welcome !
Boot up from PCLinuxOS CD and execute this in Konsole/Terminal:
Post output here.
Thank you so much devil, but is there no way of me fixing this without the disk? And the disk, will it work even though neither of my OSs will get past the screen where i choose which to use?
yes its a live CD ... If you run the command as devils casper posted then we will know disk structure, and you will be able to edit config files to repair the system.
