Question Tomacro limHD200i media player ???

Hello all

Hope this is an easy question as I know absolutely nothing about Linux and the associated software.

My Tomacro limHD200i media player is connected to a D-Link 615 router by ethernet cable. The router has assigned it, via DHCP, an address of 192.168.0.194
My desktop computer is running Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3. The address of the Desktop computer is 192.168.0.199.

Tomacro limHD200i media player has a linux based operating system, or so I think. There is a network option that should allow me to use something called SAMBA to stream movies and music from a folder in the root directory of the desktop computer called "media" so I guess in windows terms it would be located as C:\media

The probem is........ I know nothing of linux commands, attached is two pics of the screens that are part of the menu for networking. The first shows that SAMBA is an option and the second is what I think the address for the media player to access C drive in particular the "media" folder.

Does this address look correct ???? //192.168.0.199/media

Appreciate if you folks could take a quick look and see if I'm on the right track

Thanks

Soooo given the info.........does this look correct for a linux based device to communicate with a windows desktop ??
//192.168.0.199/media

Actually, you need to configure your Windows share. The shared media directory doesn't have to be c:\media. It can be any directory that you share as "media". Your media player, assuming it is using Linux, will use the CIFS remote file system (Common Internet File System) protocol, which is what Windows/Samba uses, to mount the shared "media" directory that your Windows sytems will have exported when you share it. Once you do that, the address //192.168.0.199/media should work for you, though when you share it, you will want to make it accessible by everyone, otherwise it will require a userid/password to do so.

Thanks for your assistance....... I will start to work on this tomorrow and see how far I get before tearing the hair from my head
