Do you really believe this? I'm not sure I do.

I don't think that many linux users are buying brand new hardware to run on linux boxes, instead using older or second hand hardware that has much better support from the linux community, sometimes even kernel suport.

This is true because if you use your computer enough you will reallise that Microstoft is ripping you off.
Can you explain what you mean? If you bought an OEM license of Windows XP Home or Pro, especially bundled with a new PC, you are barely paying anything for the software.

Therefore I predict that a Linux user will buy, on average, at least 3 times as many graphics cards as windows users
I think its the opposite. Why would I buy more video cards for a platform that has a fraction of the games that Windows does?

ATI therfore should give us these needed drivers to satisfy a huge potential market.
I agree with you, but for a much simpler reason: They've committed to releasing linux drivers, they should damn well do it right, or not at all.

Package Managers! Apt-Get and Portage (among others) allow users to install programs MUCH easier than Windows can.
Hardware Drivers. In SuSE, ALL the hardware is detected and installed automatically! How is this harder than Windows' constant disc changing and rebooting?
