ASUS z71v alsa problems. No headphone sound.

Guys, I have an ASUS z71v notebook and am desperately trying to get it to work with headphones. The note book only has a line (s pdif) and mic. jack. Thats it I plug in my headphones the same way i do in windows and my laptop speakers turn off. However, no sound from the headphones. I compiled the alsa-driver myself, its 1.09

Okay so heres a nice lspci

Again this is the Azalia "compliant" "Intel High definition Audio" Realtek ALC 880 chip.

Again the headphones work fine with this setup in windows... any ideas. I've searched and am yet to find someone else with this problem. But then again, the z71v is a pretty new notebook.

Thanks again in advance!

Re: ASUS z71v alsa problems. No headphone sound.

Have a look at my page on getting Linux to run on this laptop.
http://resonance.org/~josh/laptop.html

Spoiler: You'll need to get latest ALSA CVS.

Cheers!

Josh Green

Update: Actually there is a new release (1.0.9rc4a) which appears to have Z71V support.

Headphones work fine for me with latest ALSA on the Z71V. Make sure you have the "Headphone" volume unmuted and turned up. Of note is that the headphone and Front speakers are 2 separate volume controls.
