I am currently running windows and have a hardrive that just has divx video files on it. I am going to install Linux (gentoo probably) onto another hard drive. Will i be able to mount the drive (the one with my video files) to my new linux box? Or will it automatically read it? Im new to linux so any advice will help, thanks

Yes you can mount fat or ntfs drives under linux and read/write to them too:

mount /dev/hd** /mnt/windows

where /dev/hd** is the letter and number coresponding to your drive/partition that you are mounting.

Btw great choice with gentoo. IMHO (many will disagree) It is great for new users!

When you're using WinXP with NTFS then notice this:

Kernel 2.6.x supports read/write support for NTFS disks,

Kernel lower then 2.6.x doesn't support write support for NTFS disks
