problem:

after clean install (done 3 times in hopes to het rid of the prob) of mandrake 10 i encounter a problem:

when i start loading KDE (the globe icon, or one b4 it), a beep sound apears and stays at all times....sounds like a system speakier error beep, but it doesnt end and it comes from my [dsktop] speakers.

after restart/shurdown the sound actualy starts at the log on prompt b4 the KDE load.

please help me!

well done with posting all the logs etc, makes this much easier.

ur sound card is detected fine and has drivers etc loading fine. id say the problem is in the kde arts server. go into kdecontrol thing and click on sound server, first try forcing it to use OSS instead of auto, and if that doesnt help, turn off the arts server and just tell all apps to use OSS output.

I actually had a similar problem with KDE.
Try this :

find the KMix application, check the "advanced" checkbox, and disable as many as possible of the options to find which one is screwing things up. On my box (an old PIII with a SoundBlaster Live!) a couple of the "mix.." options gave REALLY weird output, lots of static and sometimes just beeping.

I'm brand new user on linux...I have tried Knoppix, Mandrake 10.1, SUSE Live CD and now Fedora Core 4. When I say tried I just mean played around with it. This is my first post on any forum ever.

The actual problem is a beeping noise that comes up when I work with certain programs, like Kig, the interactive geometry program from the KDE education package, when I do things like moving figures around. I haven't spotted any other, since I have not used that many programs yet, but Kig always gives me this problem, both on KDE and Gnome. I got this problem with Mandrake 10.1 Official, and now with FC4. The beeping comes from the PC speaker itself, no problem with the sound card that I know of. I just unplugged the cable for the speaker, but it also gets my power light blinking non-stop, I have tried logging out and then back in, still blinking. I have read some similar postings, but nothing exactly like this with a specific program triggering the event. I'm dual-booting, of course, and Windows doesn't get me this problem. Right now my nomal status is blinking power light on the front of the PC, I can hear music fine, that's not problem, it's just that it seems a little odd.

Please tell me any logs or config files you need me to show you, or some technical spec of my PC you want to know, it's actually kind of old, but it's what I have right now, that's why I'm not posting them, haha. I see that you usually use it as a signature for your postings.

I forgot to say (among other things probably) that it is a continous beep, so it's not a console or regular notification beep. After it starts, no stopping at all, just by restarting as far as I have tried. No error messages appear.

I've been having a problem:
I get a continuous beep coming out of my sound card and my box freezes, this only happens when I'm listening to music or watching a video with sound, etc.
I think it's a problem with the snd-emu10k1 alsa sound card driver, because it doesn't seem to happen in windows (although I haven't gotten round to checking properly yet).

Edit: It doesn't happen as soon as something tries to make a sound, it's kind of random.
Edit2: Linux kernel 2.6.15.1 with fbsplash and vesafb patches (and I think another one that's done aoutomatically when you emerge vanilla-sources on Gentoo).
