Problem on resembling an old PC

Hi folks,

CPU PII-Intel 350
IWill motherboard
ATA-66 PCI-controller
Maxtor ATA-100 HD connected to ATA-66 PCI controller
Floppy driver
CD Writer
VGA graphic card
LCD display
2 NIC cards
RAM 128+128+64 MB

Just resembled an old P-II box with components resting on shelves sometimes. I need this old box to build a gateway.

While turning on the box, the buzzar sounded continueously, with only a dark screen displayed. CPU fan was running. CDWriter tray can be ejected.

Please advise where I have to check first. TIA

There seems to be a problem with your RAM.

Hi,

Tks for your advice.

It is the problem of the RAM slot. There are 4 RAM slots on the motherboard and I have 3 RAM sticks. After moving the RAM stick to another slot the problem disappeared. However the questioned RAM slot was sometime working and another time failed. It seems beyond my control.

Those RAM slots can become very tricky. Often it also a temperature or subtle contact problem, so they sometimes work and then again not for no apparent reason.

I had already one PC and one notebook with that problem and never could get rid of that problem properly.

Since then I try to keep my hands off the motherboard if possible.
