what langs?
I want to know what programming langs are used in, say Ubuntu, PCLinuxOS, Freespire, and what langs are used in the DE's Xfce, Gnome and K
oh and please list all of them, but if you can't, list all the ones you know of, and if someone has posted a lang, please don't post it again
I also want to know what is required to make a Linux distro, edit the kernel, make a DE, and where to get them
no I'm not going to make a distro yet, I just to learn the langs and tools required

XFce and Gnome both are C. KDE is C++. The distros use any number of a variety of languages, but most of the software will probably be C. If you want to make a distro, check out Linux From Scratch. That's just the beginning. All the other stuff, look into google.

The languages that are Active in the Linux World (as far as I know) are:
C, C++, Perl, Phyton, Bash, AWK, SED.
The Languages also used a lot by linux people for websites are:
php, mysql, Perl, Phyton
The Languages that are used a lot when you do Embedded Linux are:
C, C++, ARM-Assembler, SPARC-Assembler
and Ive heard Java is also used. But I dont know about that.
But if you want to write your own DE and Kernel mod and Distro you better learn C, C++ and have a whole lot of time.
Cheers,
Robin

I am a personal fan of the OReilly Head First books. They are really great.

I think any technical book store (I don't know if there is such a concept in your locality) will have them. This is how I got them.
