    hello friends ,

    i am learning linux from last few months and i have got its basic ideas and commands ......now i want to test my self ......i am a student and i also have to make a project .......i am looking for some linux application .....i request you to please tell me some applications that i can make now ......any idea will be most

    But to learn more about Linux , I would suggest that you get the book "Linux in a Nutshell 5th edition" a O'reilly book, best price is from Amazon.com
    It an in depth explaination of Linux commands.

    Probably one of the best first projects if you are learning C in conjunction with Linux is to create an editor using either C library calls or system calls.
    Or pick say GTK and create an application to do with media.

    These are only suggestions and my opinion.

    One good exercise that I engaged in was reimplementing standard UNIX utilities. Write your own versions of cat, cp, mv, ls, etc. This is a good way to work on IO and system calls.

    To get a good understanding of C, try implementing basic data structures. Linked lists, stacks, queues, and so on.

    Besides that, just start writing stuff. Whenever you encounter a problem, try thinking how you would solve it. I have tons of scripts and programs lying around that do simple things for me (for instance, I have one for telling me the ASCII value of a character, one for converting numbers to different bases, etc.).
