Writing a Panel-Applet in Python

Hi,

I'm new to this forum but I hang out with linux for some time so I noticed that there is no startmenu that fullfills my needs! So I decided to take Part in an opensource project, which tries to create a better startmenu for gnome.

We already have a (non functional, just static) gui and I wanted to make the Panel Applet to make the startmenu accessible from the Panel. The Problem is now that this is my first Linux-Project and I can't get the Applet to work. I followed a documentation about this but even that one didn't work!

I tried this on the Ubuntu 8.04 beta and on Ubuntu 7.10. I have to say that the applet is startable with the terminal, so it works but I seem to have Problems with the Server-File.

I've included everything I've done till now, cause I'm a little confused about this!
