I have a wav file. it will play in internet explorer, but showing install plugin- when opened with mozilla
i have used <embed> and <bgsound>
is there any other way to play sound in mozilla

It wont be a matter of the html you're using to play it - you just need to install a plugin in firefox that handles the file in question.
I'd suggest getting mozplugger or mplayer-plugin installed, but how you do that will depend on what distro you're using.

ya.. i want to know whether any html code is there to play a wav file in multiple browsers. without the burden of installing the plug-in is there any other way to play the wav file directly

Sorry - misunderstood the question. As far as I know, you'll always need some sort of plugin to play audio from a web browser* (but of course those plugins are usually pre-installed for things like IE).
However, I'm not expert on exactly that, so maybe there's a way that I don't know about.
