Python in linux
Hello,
As I read on many different subjects of linux. I frequently read that python is used.
The program languages I know are, c++ , java , vb.net, rpg,
Is it worth it to lean python? What benefits does it have for me, if a I already know the previously mentioned languages. What is the popularity/position/usefulness of python in linux?
Thanks!

Yes, Python is very popular. You'd need to decide for yourself if it would benefit you to learn it but I'm guessing that it probably would.

Python is used in a lot of applications these days. Some of my colleagues from a previous job were very keen on it. I have a lot of respect for their technical acuity and expertise in C, C++, and Java as well as Python, so I have to think it is probably worth looking into. Personally, I haven't had the need, but I have certainly considered learning it.

Hi.
For one measure of popularity, see TIOBE Software: The Coding Standards Company
If that suggests that it is worthwhile to know, then see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Python_...mming_language) for some typical areas in which it is used ... cheers, drlWelcome - get the most out of the forum by reading forum basics and guidelines: click here.

Anyone here besides myself ever program in the old DEC DIBOL (now known as DBL) language? It was used for MCBA manufacturing accounting and MRP/ERP software about 20-25 years ago. It was Digital Equipment's idea of what COBOL should have been. They even got it adopted as an ANSI/ISO standard language!

Back when the IBM PC first came out, I worked as a sales rep. at ComputerLand in the Silly Valley. I buddy of mine who was a professor of mathematics at one of the local universities wouldn't buy a PC until I could give him one with APL on it! As soon as I could get it for him (along with the keyboard overlay), he bought one!
