Question How log IP addresses visited on some webpage using shell scripting?

Hi I'm wondering would it be possible write a shell script that monitors client side ip-addresses that connects to some web-address and list these addresses to the database? It might be hard to create this with shell script but I believe that it is possible??

The question is where are you trying to log this? Client side? Server side? Some where in between?
