How to study programming in Linux/Unix?
You see I am new to the Linux World(only six month old), and I just get a copy of Beginning Linux Programming, and the first several chapters seems quite boring as I find learning just like receiting, and I can not keep every system function in mind, and keep referencing the previous pages and I try to type some codes.
I was told by seniors that an advanced edition named Advanced Programming In Unix Enviroment is even more challenging (yet more boring seems to me).
I wonder is there any more efficient way of learning, because I still have great interests in Linux programming, the description above may a little exaggerated, because I just want to make my learning more efficient. Thank you.

Write a game!
You will have to care about many system programming aspects. Graphical representation, storage, sound, network, input, ...
Also you will have to try many approaches to see which is the most performing, therefore you will see quite a lot.
And it is fun.

Your lifetime will not suffice to do any such thing.
But realizing this is part of the learning process as well, so go for it
