What is the simplest way of sending a BMP image from a memory buffer to a window? (Without having to plot it pixel by pixel)

I can be found either 40 miles west of Chicago, in Chicago, or in a galaxy far, far away.
That depends upon a lot of things such as the window manager you are running, what graphics libraries you are using, etc. So, please describe your Linux distribution+version, window manager and version, and the graphics libraries or toolkits you plan on using.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

The OS is CentOS 5.4, and i intend to use the OpenGL library. As for the windows manager, i am not sure if it is KDE or GNOME.
