As for your choice in distro, you can program in GCC with any version of Linux. Some distributions come with the compiler pre-installed, others will let you install it after-the-fact with a couple of keystrokes. I personally wouldn't worry so much about that and focus on finding a distribution you enjoy using, because if you don't enjoy using it you're not going to want to spend time doing work on it.Registered Linux user #270181
