    Cross-Compile some libs

    Hello there!

    I need to cross-compile some libs for using in a ARM11 board running Linux (at this time, 2.6.28, but I'll try update it... and for costs reason, maybe it turns on a ARM9 board). The libs are libfprint, libusb-1.0 (that is a requirement of libfprint), libSDL (and some of its extensions) and maybe libsqlite3. How I can make this, with the development files in the host machine (an Ubuntu 10.04 32bits machine) and the runtime files at the host ARM11 Board.

    Thanks!

    Well, I think that I compiled the libs ok. I used the cross compiler (arm-linux) to compile the source of the libraty. It generated the files, that I put on the /lib folder of the embedded system. After that, I copied the lib and include folders generated by the cross compile in the folders of itself. But when I try to link the app with the new added library (using the -l flag), it can't find the functions...

    Anyone know what I must do?

    EDIT: A new info: in the log of the linker, it seems to be searching for the lib, but it is classified as incompatible (huh?!)

    /opt/FriendlyARM/.../arm-none-linux-gnueabi/bin/ld: skipping incompatible /opt/FriendlyARM/.../arm-none-linux-gnueabi/lib/libfprint.a when searching for -lfprint

    Maybe this indicates a error in the compiling of the lib?

    PS: for the compiling, I run ./configure --host=arm-linux-gnu --prefix=<MyDestFolder>, edited the CC, AR and RANLIB parameters of make, run make then make install.

    Without full information about your ARM cross-compiler tool chain (what binaries you have), and a copy of your Makefile (at the least), you don't provide enough information to help much. I do ARM cross-compiling/linking on Linux all the time, without such problems.

    The toolchain is under a directory named 4.5.1. Inside it, I have the directories arm-none-linux-gnueabi, bin, lib, libexec and share. Inside the bin folder, I have the binaries listed below with the extension with the prefix arm-linux- and arm-none-linux-gnueabi-. I don't know the difference between them. In the arm-none-linux-gnueabi/bin folder, I have the following exec files:

    Code:
    ar      as       c++       g++       gcc
    ld      nm       objcopy   objdump   ranlib
    strip
    My makefile is very simple:

    Code:
    TOOLCHAIN=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/
    CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-

    PATH := ${TOOLCHAIN}:${PATH}

    all:
    	@${CROSS_COMPILE}gcc -lfprint test.c -o bintest

    clean:
    	@rm -Rf *.o bintest
    The fprint libs compiles ok, but when I try to link my program with it, I receive the message described in last post. When I try to compile de SDL library, I'm receiving the message that message (skipping incompatible...) with the library directfb...

    The commands that I use to compile (or try to compile) for fprint is:
    Code:
    NM=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-nm LD=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-ld CC=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-gcc CXX=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-g++ RANLIB=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-ranlib AR=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-ar ./configure --prefix=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/arm-none-linux-gnueabi/ --host=arm-linux
    and for SDL (the use of the flags is in the README.Qtopia file, under the source folder):
    Code:
    NM=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-nm LD=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-ld CC=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-gcc CXX=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-g++ RANLIB=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-ranlib AR=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/bin/arm-linux-ar ./configure --enable-video-qtopia --disable-video-dummy --disable-video-fbcon --disable-video-dga --disable-arts --disable-esd --disable-alsa --disable-cdrom --disable-video-x11 --disable-nasm --disable-pulseaudio --prefix=/opt/FriendlyARM/toolschain/4.5.1/arm-none-linux-gnueabi/ --host=arm-linux

    So, did you build your library statically, or is it a shared library? Please show Makefile stuff used to build your fprint library. If it is not a shared library, did you run ranlib on it? Finally, do this in your Makefile:
    Code:
    all:
    	@${CROSS_COMPILE}gcc test.c -o bintest -lfprint
    Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

    Well, after a week of work, I still can't compile fprint. I stopped in the dependencies of it. First, it needed the libusb-1.0 - I downloaded and compiled the source of libusb-1.0.8. After this, it asks for -lnss3. I suppose that is the Mozilla's Network Security Service... is this right? I've downloaded, but I can't find a way to compile it for ARM...
