    How is the "progress" bar on websites like yatra or whatever done?


    When you search for a flight etc., it shows you a GIF while it finds your flights. How does it redirect the page AFTER the results are available?

    That's a question that is really many questions. A redirect is done using HTTP response codes but that may not be happening at all. If the site is using Flash or Silverlight then it is essentially streaming. If it is using HTML, CSS and JavaScript there are a number of possibilities. Communication could be through XHR, long polling, WebSockets or a combination of the those and a HTTP redirect.

    What is "long polling"?

    I really doubt it's Flash.

    Also, AFAIK, the site came out before HTML 5 came out. In that case, what were they doing?
