    Isn't Java cross-platform? As for compiled language like C and C++, they are operating system and architecture specific, no?

    Yeah, C and C++ works on most OS's and architectures... But then you have to compile it on that OS with a compiler which works on that OS, and in addition many shared libs etc. only exists for one/a couple of OS('s).

    I would suggest doing as Benny said and program in for example java or python.
