    Passwrd are encrypted on /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow (with shadowing system).

    You should crypt the password provided and compare the two hashes. If they are equal, the password is right.

    I know you can use crypt routine, but I don't know if it's available for your language.

    Hoever, man crypt should give you enought informations.
    When using Windows, have you ever told "Ehi... do your business?"
