I need to know where you can get a free compiler and IDE for Java.

They also have a NETBEANS IDE there
Also you could possibly use ECLIPSE as an IDE. Its an opensource IDE by IBM. Its Pretty good. Just google it and you'l find it.

There is also the Blackdown Java which provides a free version of Java. They're not at Java 5 yet, so if you need that, go for Sun's version. Otherwise, you might give Blackdown a shot:

OK, so which is the the best free IDE and compiler and anything else I need to start Java
- 10-08-2005 #8I would suggest going with Sun's java version 1.5 and using ecclipse as the ide. But it all comes down to personal preference, You should try both ide's and if you feel like it, both Sun's java and gnu's java and see which combination you like best.
