Finding Applications Installed
would like to know as to how we can find the configuration of hardware devices and software applications installed in the system. Is there a comman or a configuration file that i can use for the same ??? I am currently using Red Hat Linux 9.0 (Shrike)
Rpm is the red hat package manager.. but is there a generic utility or manager which works for all flavours of Linux and Unix..

That will show you all packaged installed via RPM.
As far as all programs, you can manually check out the:
directories for commands accessible by everyone, and the
directories for command accessible only by the superuser.
