    Finding Applications Installed

would like to know as to how we can find the configuration of hardware devices and software applications installed in the system. Is there a comman or a configuration file that i can use for the same ??? I am currently using Red Hat Linux 9.0 (Shrike)

Rpm is the red hat package manager.. but is there a generic utility or manager which works for all flavours of Linux and Unix..

To find the list of installed packages:
    Code:
    rpm -qa

That will show you all packaged installed via RPM.

As far as all programs, you can manually check out the:

    /bin
    /usr/bin
    /usr/local/bin

directories for commands accessible by everyone, and the

    /sbin
    /usr/sbin
    /usr/local/sbin

directories for command accessible only by the superuser.

I doubt it. Each distro installs programs differently and therefore no program will be able to tell how a program is installed unless it is written specifically for a distro.
