I've been messing around with some hacked firmware for Linksys AP and routers. If your carefull and get them from "clean" sites they tend to fix issues with the mfg's firmware 6 months and more before a new update is released by the mfg. Which still maynot solve basic issue like staying connected....

They also tend to add features that the mfg would not add due to additional support and you don't have to buy a more expensive device to do the same thing, like bandwidth mgt, DMZ's, change output power levels, VPN client or server, help on online gaming issues, etc...

So my question is since these devices use a linux kernel, for a non-programmer like me, what is the process used to create a working update to firmware that is based in linux?

Thanks
