registering swf

Hi,
i am having swf files i need to open it in flash player by default..i had created a .desktop file to ececute the flashplayer...now my doubt is how to add this player in the default list for swf files..
i tried something like
application/swf=test_player.desktop
in defaults.list and mimeinfo.cache files..it is not working....please help me out

Sorry ignore the above post..
let me clear my question, i want add a new extension files for example *.edu
for that i had created a xml file and stored it in the <mime>/packages folder than i executed
update-mime-database....its working fine, but now i need to have a special image for that *.edu files how to do that?
