    /etc/cron.d not executing RHEL 5

    Haven't posted here for years but I need some help.

    I have setup some RHEL5 servers and I need to run some cron jobs.
    We need to place entries in /etc/crontab.d but for some reason they do not get executed. We place a file with crontab entry in this directory. An example of such entry would be

    0-59/20 * * * * /usr/local/net.support/dhcp/cron.5min

    The permissions on /etc/cron.d are chmod 600 and root owned.
    The script it point to is set executable and owned by root.
    None of the scripts work when ran from /etc/cron.d

    Any ideas?

    fixed!

    You need to specify the user in the entry when working from /etc/cron.d

    Thumbs up

    WOW. For such an old thread this pointed me to the answer.

    I SPENT ALL DAY TRYING TO MAKE A /ETC/CRON.D SCRIPT WORK!!!!

    Must specify valid user:
    * * * * * root echo This works

    like this redhat bug (don't know where the upstream bugzilla is).

    THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU....... THERE ARE SO MANY POSTS FOR THIS SILENT BUG, WITH VERY FEW ANSWERS. THANK YOU!!!!
