My system doesn't power off when I shut down from linux. The machine stops at the line power down; but doesn't continue further to switch off. What to do?...

    not powering off.


    My system doesn't power off when I shut down from linux. The machine stops at the line power down; but doesn't continue further to switch off.

    What to do?

    Turn it off..... It happens sometimes and i dont know the cause but it will work most of the time

    That's a setting in the BIOS called soft power-down. Some have it, others don't.

    Upgrade your BIOS, then it will work. Had this probleme to once..

    I said what i said because sometimes mine dose a full shutdown and some times a full shutdown...usualy the soft shutdown the first time after i use a new kernel...goofy just goofy

    Someone on the irc channel <plug> told me to use the -h switch as in shutdown -h now.

    And it worked.
