realtek hda driver - fedora 7
Hi,
i use fedora 7 now, and the soundcard isn't working by the first time installation. then i try to install a realtek driver i found from the internet. when try i install it, an error occured and then my PCM Device in 'soundcard detection' is none. i try to 'Reload audrio drivers' from the same menu. but then this msg box appear saying
[code]'Unable to load kernel module snd-hda-intel. You need to reboot your box for the changes to take effect.'[code]
what does it mean to reboot my box? is there any other way to solve this?

Reboot means to restart. Shutdown and start it up again. What sound card does your computer have?

That's the same 'card' I have on my laptop. Sound works here in Fedora7 and 8 Test 3. Look at this link LaptopSound - Fedora Linux My Way. There's a lot of 'stuff' there. It's my wiki. I use it more for a perpetual notepad than a public web site, but the first section should help you sort out your sound issues. Keep in mind that once you get sound working with a particular kernel if there's a kernel update sound will be broken again. Read the wiki closely for tips on how to handle this... The whole deal is actually easier than it looks.
Good luck.Glenn
