    Neewbe Needs Help-Nvidia driver install

    Hi i am brand new to the message forums and linux.just installed fedora 2 w kernal
    2.6.6-1.435.2.3 what i dont know is Where do i go to install IT?HOW do I get to right
    area to install the driver?..using 2 HD w dual boot fedora 2 and winxp..Geforce 4 ti 4200
    card..and latest dvirer from nvidia..PLEASE Help

    Download the driver. Once you have done that, press ctrl+alt+f1. Log in as root. Type "init3". Press ctrl+alt+f2, and log in as root again. Cd to the directory where you downloaded the driver file, and then type sh <filename>.run That will start the installer. After that, edit your xf86config file, if needed. Then type "init 5" and you should be all set.

    hi thanks for responding to my questions re video driver.
    I do however have another big problem.I tried to load the nvidia driver
    then i reboot the sys gives an error mess INIT:Id x respawing too fast:
    disabled for 5 min...not sure what exactly means.. iam using kernal
    2.6.6-1.435.2.3..This is the one i installed the vid drvr on..
    I tried to boot into old kernal 2.6.5-1.358,but i get the same error mess.
    I am not sure what to do to fix this prob.But i do know after i installed
    the driver it told me to please update xf86config or xorg.conf
    I dont know how to get to xf86config and replace nv w nvidia?
    PLEASE HELP...The frustration is mounting..this kind of reminds me
    of my old dos days

    dont mean to play devils advocate here, but i ran a search for 'nvidea driver' on this forum archive, and found several strings with this exact explination on it (the first question) this is becoming a common question, the 3 post is a ligit question that needs an answer that cannot be googled in 5 min, but dont save 5 of your own to use 15 of someone elses.
