when i write ..... rpm -q gcc it shows... gcc-3.4.3-9.EL4 but when i try to install PHP,it shows...... Loading cache ./config.cache checking for Cygwin environment... no checking for mingw32 environment... ...

    problem with C compiler!!!!!need help


    when i write .....
    rpm -q gcc
    it shows...
    gcc-3.4.3-9.EL4

    but when i try to install PHP,it shows......

    Loading cache ./config.cache
    checking for Cygwin environment... no
    checking for mingw32 environment... no
    checking for egrep... grep -E
    checking for a sed that does not truncate output... /bin/sed
    checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
    checking target system type... i686-pc-linux-gnulibc1
    checking for gcc... gcc
    checking whether the C compiler (gcc ) works... no
    configure: error: installation or configuration problem: C compiler cannot create executables.


    ........plz need help.

    Try installing as root.

    i m using redhat enterprize 4 ws ......and always do that as a root.

    What happens when you try to compile a program?

    I wonder if You can just reinstall that one package.

    Just check the relative packages

    gcc-devel
    gcc-utils
    gcc-lib

    check all packages belong to gcc
    if u have yum

    then just
    # yum install gcc*
